Cleaning a DeckOiling a Deck Oiled Deck Video

Raised shaped Decking over old patio at Sevenoaks

An old split-level patio converted into continuous-surface deck with safety balustrades added. Old steps were removed and replaced by 'user-friendly' purpose-made staircase to lower garden.

The decking was built to a polygon shape to take in the curve of the old hidden patio area. The deck allowed for a single level seating dining area with steps down to garden.

Treated decking timbers were used throughout for this raised decking project.

This Sevenoaks patio and garden was converted into a very usable recreation area with the provision of our softwood timber decking patio area. The old concreted steps had to be removed and then the area re-bricked before deck works could be started.

In any event, a new deck staircase was incorporated into the deck to give far better access to the garden area. Pre-formed stair stringed were affixed to a decking joist for extra stability. An intermediate support post was also added on the span to give strength.

The finished outline of the deck was not a series of regular angles, but followed the general outline of the old patio. The old patio was originally and irregular curve, but it was decided upon an angled deck in order to have the balustrades following the line of the deck. Curved deck would have been possible, but then with angled balustrade the effect would have been lost - and also not look too good. The fascia was extended down below the deck and sub frame to cover as much of the old patio wall as possible.

The outline of the deck was further softened by the overhanging  mature shrubs.
