The decking scheme at Croydon by Top Deck decking ltd - deck designers and builders, included two main decks and a large decking staircase to the garden. The octagonal decking section covered an air-raid shelter - the roof of which had become overgrown with ivy. |
All work carried out by Top Deck decking Ltd staff, and director David Hughes designed, worked and supervised the project from start to finish.
Work started 20th Feb 2006
Before we started!

Mon 13th March after days off with illness, rain, snow and severe ice - making it too dangerous to work at height above ground level!
This large winding staircase is the last section before completion.
How it started out!
and then progressed
Put into position at bottom of staircase - tempoprary.
Day 1 - Wall plate complete with joist-hangers affixed to the wall
from there it is plain sailing (!) to get a good start on the main subframe.
Day 2 Feb 21st.
Day 3 Fri 24th (Wed Thurs rained/snowed off) decking started on main deck.

Day 4 Mon 27th Feb

as an
additional 'room' - enclosed by balustrades.
Day 5 Tue 28th Feb - Very cold winds!!
The octagon starts to take shape................
and the balustrades are now well underway.
Day 6 Wed 1st March .......... Fixing all the supports to the octagonal area. (5m x 4m) and 2.5m above ground level - needing 3m supports. All supports fastened with M12 (12mm thick) galvanised bolts, using square plate washers for added strength. This section of deck covers an old air-raid shelter!
