Garden Decks - decking in the garden.

Often there is a fine line that divides that which can be called a garden deck and that which is a Patio Deck.

For the purpose of this page - this section - when we talk about garden decks, we are describing those decks that are an integral part of the garden - which a patio deck is sometimes not - or those decks which have the important design aspect of actually bringing the house into the garden. It can be argued that patio decks do this. Yes, but a garden deck is more part of the garden than part of the house - even if joined to the house!

Examples of Garden Decks

All of the decks in the examples below fall into the category of what we would call Garden Decks. To confuse things, some could also be classed as patio decks! Most garden decks are built at ground level - though this is not necessarily the case. Rarely does a garden deck require planning permission, and certainly not building regulations supervision.

Garden Patio Deck - Slightly raised and which altered the garden aspect enough to be classed as a garden deck.

Garden Decks and connecting Path. This decking complex spread right out into the garden - making some areas of the garden accessible, as was not always the case. A small pond area was also bought into the deck.

Large garden deck - which took in most of the garden area, and also included some interesting curved area for planted borders - together with a pergola over a raised pond.

Garden Deck and Fencing. The split level deck covered the whole garden area, and included new fencing with matching timber. The deck was finished off with large planters and a range of screening bamboos.

Raised garden deck, with pathway from the house. This was later planted around the path and the deck. Planting areas were upmost in the client's minds.

Large flat garden deck. Can also be classed as a patio deck, but was later expanded into the garden with another deck and connecting patway.

A Garden Patio terrace Deck if you like. But a large one - well away from the house, with some good provision for planting.
